Champagne
From the villages close to Epernay in north east France lie the vineyards producing the world famous sparkling white wine known as Champagne. No other wine growing region in the world is allowed to call its sparkling wine champagne.
The range from village wines to Premier Cru and Grand Cru are produced by the leading brand producers like Moet et Chandon, Roederer, Krug and Bollinger and these old grand houses from Champagne have become internationally recognised. However, the real value/price/quality ratio in this region is from the smaller owner/growers although unfortunately most small producers still sell their grapes to the larger houses of the region.
