Italy

Italian WinesThe past 10 years have seen worldwide demand for the `niche market’ wines of the Piedmont, Tuscany and more recently Mount Etna increase dramatically.

The pioneering BAROLO BOYS in Piedmont and the `SUPER TUSCANS’ have established their identity in a very short period of time for outstanding quality and age-worthy wines.

Further the high altitude vineyards on the north slopes of MOUNT ETNA are gathering international interest for the wines made from the Nerello Mascalese grape. The vineyards are situated at elevations of between 600 – 900 metres and enjoy cool nights despite the far southerly latitude of the region.

The style is almost `pinot noiresque’ with pure red and black fruits, mineral energy (from the volcanic soils), complexity, freshness and elegance.

I’ve drunk Sicilia’s crimson wine!
The blazing vintage pressed
From grapes on Etna’s breast,
What time the mellowing autumn sun did shine:
I‘ve drunk the wine!
I feel its blood divine
Poured on the sluggish tide of mine,
Till, kindling slow, Its fountains glow
With the light that swims
On their trembling brims,
And a molten sunrise floods my limbs!
